INTRODUCTION TO THE BAND

Frome Town Youth Band (FTYB) was first formed in 1997 to provide an opportunity for young people to learn and perform music in and around the local community.

Frome Town Band welcomes all players & beginners whatever ability or standard. If you want to play or have played and would like to join a fun and friendly band, please contact us or come along to a rehearsal.

With increasing number of adults wishing to join, the band opened its doors to all members of the community in 2018 and is now very much a community band, accessible to all. The band changed its name to Frome Town Band (FTB)

FTB comprises a beginners training band and a main band, performing a broad repertoire of music which can be booked for any occasion. The band regularly plays at concerts, festivals, church services, fairs, fetes, as well as organizing fund-raising and PR event within the local community.

FTB is a not-for-profit organisation which funds it activities with its own generated income, donations and grants. The band aims to provide brass players of all ages and abilities in the area with an opportunity to come together to practice, share knowledge and encourage brass music development.

Our musical director is Chris Turner, a BMus graduate from the University of Surrey, who has 15 years' experience in professional and amateur musical theatre, working with both adults and children. Chris is also a composer, music and instrumental teacher, and is the founder and Director of ACTS theatre school in Warminster.

AIMS

FTB aims to provide opportunities, accessible to all, to those living in Frome and surrounding areas to come together to learn, play, enjoy and perform brass music, and in doing so promote and develop brass music within the local community.

The band practices on Wednesday evenings during term time at the Band Room, Randolph Road, Frome.

You can join with no knowledge of music whatsoever. We will teach you to read music and to play an instrument.

You will be expected to keep to the rules of the band.

MAIN BAND

Anyone interested in joining our main band should discuss with our musical director and come along to a main band practice. You will need to be able to read music and be ready to start playing music of the required standard.

You will be expected to keep to the rules of the band.

Band membership is by monthly subscription and is a low flat-rate of £6 per member (junior or adult) per calendar month. Payment can be made by direct debit and ideally should be Gift Aided (FTB is a registered charity).
